I love favours at weddings and anyone who says they are a waste of money just hasn't got any imagination... I mean, they don't need to cost the earth and who doesnt love to give a little gift? You can incorporate them in to your theme {in terms of colour and style}, make them very personal {eg compilation CD's aka "The Mix Tape", your favourite tipple etc} or of course completely impersonal, silly, romantic, comical.. whatever!

I do love a photobooth at a wedding, it is a great idea as not only does it offer entertainment to your guests it also gives you extra memories from the day and your guests get to take home their pictures as a little gift from the day. I had one at my wedding and still see photobooth pictures on friends pin boards and fridges which makes me smile :)

Without doubt the best decision we made whilst planning our wedding was to book a wedding planner. We actually did this quite late on when it dawned on us that on the day we would not feasibly be able to organise the logistics of two wedding venues {we married at one hotel and then moved over to a bigger hotel for the evening reception]} nor did we really want to. I for one wanted to faff around in the bridal suite with my bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding drinking bucks fizz not worrying about table settings and favours.

So last weekend I was chatting with uber-photographer Jeff Ascough whilst he did some maternity shots of my ever expanding bump {can I get an eeek!? I might dare to share but suffice to say they are amazing as expected with Jeff's genius behind the camera..lucky lady}. We were talking weddings of course with us both having an interest in them and discussing trends in the wedding industry and how they affected photography. We both concurred that as nice as over exposed vintage style wedding photography looks now, we can't help but think that the photographer should indeed catch the essense or trend of the wedding rather than dictate it.

Now the more eagle eyed of you will probably recognise some of the next few images from Cosmo Bride where one of Sweet Days weddings was featured but they are so pretty and timeless that they can be shown again and again. To say we stumbled across Sweet Days and Roses stand at the Tatton Wedding Fair would be lying as actually we were drawn to it by Janeys amazingly gorgeous show set up and fans of vintage chic would be hard pressed to walk by! We are so glad we had the time to stop by for a chat though as Sweet Days is completely beautiful and a great concept for those brides to be who have want all the design and effort of a vintage chic wedding but don’t have the time to implement it. When I first started planning our wedding I was very keen, possibly too much so, to be an anti-wedding tradition bride. I was adamant that I wouldn't’t have a bouquet (I did get one in the end), I was convinced I would wear a very sleek, non bridal designer gown (erm that didn't happen either, tulle and sparkles anyone?) and I did want any of the fuss that brides seemed to get so hung up on (wedding card post boxes, matching table sashes, favours, floral centrepieces, tiaras, readings, even wedding cakes… some I managed to dodge, others I didn’t.)

As soon as I bought my own home with the now hubby (then just boyfriend, nothing legally binding!) something strange started to happen to us both. All of a sudden Christmas and birthday lists were littered with items like; 'spatula', 'pestle and mortar', 'pan with heavy bottom'(necessary for cooking anything for a long time, as we discovered one pan with not so heavy bottom later). Home made was the new ready made and when it comes to favours that don't break the bank, contain a whole lot of thoughtfulness and are full of sugary goodness then a little home made treat is the way to go...

One of the biggest changes to wedding traditions over the years (apart from the demise of the bouquet throw..RIP) is the wedding fruit cake. Over the past few years couples have been steadily moving away from the traditional tiered cake and looking for other options to take its important place, the main reason I think is because people were starting to see it as a bit of a waste of money which could be better used elsewhere.

To gift or not to gift, that is the question…
Now, up until about 2 months before my wedding I was adamant that we were not going to have a gift list, we didn’t need anything and it seemed like a really self-indulgent thing to do. But then when people started asking me where the list was and I replied that we weren’t having one, you’d think instead that I’d just said “Gift list? No, I’d rather drown kittens”. Shock, horror, gasp!
“You can’t not have a list, what the hell will we buy you??”,
“You don’t have to buy us anything”,
“No way, we can’t come to a wedding without a gift”.
