Sammy Aki- Groom Style Consultant

So, you've bought the ring, asked the father in law for permission and finally got down on one knee in front of a crowded restaurant to ask your girl to marry you.. her answer is yes! Hurrah! All the stress and worry was worth it, you can now plan your dream wedding together....

Oh.

Nope, it seems your work here is done. You are tossed to one side by your mother-in-law, told to order a suit from the local hire shop and then your wife-to-be will advise you later which colour cravat to wear {it will need to match the bridesmaids, napkins and toilet rolls, obvs.}

This is how it normally goes right? But this is 2012 guys and we are *thankfully* seeing a shift in the grooms input in to the style of his wedding and more importantly how he is going to look on your big day. I mean, why should the girls have all the fun? {and of course a much larger portion of the budget!}

I can talk from experience of course, my husband immediately decided he would be having a bespoke outfit made and ordered a Kilgour 3 piece suit {which cost nearly as much as a three piece suite} but why not? He has absolutely had much more wear out of it than I have my dress and he looked super gorgeous to boot.

I was delighted then when I received an email from Sammy Aki who is a Groom Style Consultant with a wealth of experience in designer and bespoke menswear. Sammy is on hand to act as style advisor to those grooms out there who want to look and feel their best on their wedding day and I love the concept. Here is Sammy to tell us a little more about the idea...

"This service is founded on enthusiasm to see discerning and dapper Grooms beside their Brides. This is a service all about personal interaction and direct recommendation...
It’s your wedding day so why are you hiring a suit?! Our Groom recognises that this is his special day and intends to feel and look great from this day forward. This starts by selecting the right items that can be treasured and worn time and time again.

There is a lot of choice out there so we are on hand to edit and present what is key to our clients, delivering on quality, detail and heritage, keeping this at the forefront no matter the budget. The aim is to make the Groom have an enjoyable, streamlined, experience and alleviate any stress and concerns taking them through their individual options. We fulfil all requirements, saving time and integrating style with thoughtful proposals and presentations, whilst our clients can relax and enjoy the haven created, either within luxury personal shopping suites, exclusive members clubs, or in the comfort of their homes.

Let’s not forget, this is a time for the Groom, Best Man and Ushers to indulge in the finer things in life. With our guidance he will be in his element in the run up to the wedding and on the day itself. Brides can rest assured that they are in safe hands, and their groom will be looking picture perfect (with gifts* in tow).

And what about Sammy Aki herself? Here is a little background on her experience and why she is more than qualified for this job!

Born to West African parents and raised in North West London and Somerset, Sammy Aki has travelled extensively internationally and worked on her fair share of Weddings, Simcha’ s, V edic Y ajna, Al Aadaa and K okookos,

“I find tradition and culture exciting, especially when two families come together in matrimony. This is a time when couples can show all friends and family what their ancestry is about, in all its Glory”

Over the years Sammy has built a client base of individuals from the art, film and music world: the international jet-set who value her open approach and come to her to seek out the latest unique offerings.

From a young age, Sammy developed her interest for Menswear, which saw her start off as a Luxury Men's style consultant for a number of flagship stores including Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Reiss, Thomas Pink and Topshop. After completing her BA in Spanish and Management she worked in the fashion teams at Esquire and Drapers, which led to a career as a freelance stylist, working on advertising campaigns, fashion shows and music videos.

In 2008 Sammy joined Kilgour Savile Row and produced the RTW collections developing her technical understanding of fabric and garment construction. After Kilgour she spent some time as the PR Manager for the UK'S oldest Bridal brand. This gave her fundamental insight into the industry and it also showed Sammy someone had been forgotten- the Groom.

Yeay for dapper grooms!
