Favourite Favours

"Unique favours"

"Unusual favours".

"Chic favours".

"Amazing favours that will differentiate my wedding from everyone else's. Please.. that's all I ask!!"

For some reason I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for favours for our wedding that no-one else would have seen before, god knows why {borderline bridezilla?}. So maybe apart from the last one I would spend most lunchtimes googling the above search terms looking for something that would blow my mind. No, really.

So what was wrong with a few sweets or chocolates? Nothing, in fact I'm rather partial to a nibble on a sweet after dinner, but the past two years I have been to a lot of weddings and everybody had done something different but covered all the bases.

We'd had Thornton's chocolate, a favourite of each of the bride and groom is a snazzy little box but unfortunately for me, the two chocolates (Viennese truffle and an alpini) were also mine and Mr C's two favourite chocs so we would basically have had exactly the same favour. But they were delightful :) and I think its so important that if you are going to do favours that they really mean something to you, so your favourite sweet, colour, smell which will resonate with your guests.

We had a cute little box of jelly belly sweets at another wedding, another great idea taken and we even had a lovely little candle and votive at another. Darn it!

So after getting stupidly close to the big day without anything in the bag I decided to go simple and have my favourite little treat, macaroons in soft pastel hues in a cute little birdcage box from confetti, not clever but looked super sweet and I love them so win-win.

But one day whilst browsing etsy {seller MadebyDina} I stumbled across wish bracelets which were I guess exactly what I was looking for originally, a bit different and a lasting reminder of the day. So the ladies got an extra little favour!

Wish bracelets are little hemp string bracelets with a bead on and the owner makes a wish as they try it on which hopefully comes true when the hemp wears away and breaks, very romantic. These would be perfect for a DIY bride as they are so simple but effective.

My blogging friend Fran also went with something a bit different on her W-day and left everyone a little fortune telling fish which is a great ice-breaker on the table too!

On a similar note, there is also this cute fabric fortune cookie favour on Not on the High Street by 2Greenmonkeys, love these!

Back when we started our blog, Fran and I did some nature themed posts and suggested the idea of a little herb pot as a favour which is a great idea as its something that people like but also the smells will evoke memories of the big day for years. Here was our DIY effort which also serves as a place name saving pennies, chiconomic!

Fran is very much the DIY Queen of the blog and in fact she made something for me and my new little girl which would make a great favour for a DIY bride, a faux cherry blossom tree in a votive with little C's initial on and date of birth. Replace this with your wedding date and the initial with the guests name and you have a favour/ place name combo.

So we've covered smell, taste, touch and of course sight so this leads me nicely on to sound. A great idea would be to a  modern day "mix tape" {read, CD!} of yours and your other halves favourite tunes or you could include some hits that a personal to you and particular guests, your bridesmaids, your bessies, your family and write a little note next to them to say why you chose them. Again another ice breaker but the personal touch gives it so much more meaning and you can even download templates to photoshop your own details on to, I saw this one on the snappily titled www.mixtapecoversnow.com...

Finally, I have to give this last one to my mum since it was her idea! Its so simple yet brilliant, basically home made badges but the twist is that they have the guests name on and then underneath their relation to the bride or groom. So you could have "DAVE" and underneath "Grooms work colleague", "CLAIRE".. "Maid of dis-honour" or even make it more tongue in cheek with "BRIDES GRANNY".. "Hardcore raver".

Again a great ice breaker, a place name and of course it ensures your guests don't have that awkward task of trying to remember everyone's name. Play around with the fonts and colours to fit your theme. If you don't want to make your own I'm sure you could find some on Etsy or I saw these homespun style ones on Not on The High St from the seller Reddandbrown which are lovely and would look fab at backyard style wedding..

That's all for now but I shall be returning to this as I have seen some more ideas for you to steal!

And on that bombshell I am off to Thornton's...
xx

Fantastic ideas, Fran's creation is gorgeous. Definitely going to 'borrow' one or two of those ideas if I ever get married. X
